Sometimes it is hard to know what we want out of life. Other times we already know, but just make the wrong choices. We covet what we don’t have. We behave in ways we know are detrimental. So, then why do we make life more complicated than it has to be?

If we let this happen to us we have only ourselves to blame. If we put our desires first we can’t always predict what will happen. We have to live with our decisions and not try to make others the culprit.

There are times when we are the victims of our own choices. We spend more than we earn, we choose fattening foods over healthy ones, we cheat instead of staying faithful and we lounge instead of exercise.

Exerting control over yourself can feel surprisingly good if you’ve never done it before. You’ll find that there are ways to feel satisfied without breaking the budget and getting yourself in debt. True happiness comes from within.

When we are unhappy it’s often because we feel inadequate compared to others. We become jealous if we feel someone is better at something we value. However, if we learn to stop comparing ourselves we will realize that our lives can be fulfilling without constant acquisitions.

It’s natural to strive for more and to want what’s new and exciting. Everyone feels that urge to acquire, but not everyone acts on it. Keeping those desires in check will help you focus on more important things.

We don’t have to fall victim to our impulses. You can appreciate material objects without having to own them. The things we want don’t have any control over us. We can control what we do and our perceptions.

Know that true happiness can only be achieved when we accept ourselves for who we are and forgive ourselves for our mistakes. We don’t have to make things more complicated than that.

If you live your life within your means, control your impulses, and appreciate others you will reap the benefits.

Will These Wine Glasses Do?

The growing trend of popularity of wine has led to a boom in things to go with wine like corkscrews, stoppers, coolers, napkins, pouring baskets, decanters, candles, thermometers, bottle jackets, hydrometers and dozens of variations of each accessory from electric versions to manual ones. Needless to say, a lot of these accessories will be used until the novelty wears off and then left at the back of the cupboard.

However, there is one category of wine drinking accessory that no wine drinker should be without and that is wine glasses. They are essential, I am sure that everyone would agree. But the good thing about wine glasses is that they are attractive when they are not in use too. A set of six lead crystal wine glasses is a fine-looking sight. And a fine set of glasses correctly shaped for the wine you are drinking will greatly enhance your enjoyment of that wine.

This is because the shape of the glass is very influential on the drinker’s capacity to savour the taste and the aroma of wine. Therefore, it is necessary to use the correct glasses for the type of wine being served.

Red wines benefit a lot from contact with air, so, apart from opening the bottle an hour before drinking it, you could decant it. The older and heavier the wine, the more air it must have. The next step is to serve the red wine in large glasses. This is not so as to be able to get as much wine in there as possible! A full, normal size bottle contains six servings no matter what glass you use, but a large glass allows you to swirl the wine around the glass, thereby increasing its contact with air.

A large tulip shaped glass is a good illustration of this kind of wine glass and any dark red wine would benefit from being drunk out of such a vessel. Try a Rioja or Bordeaux, for instance.

White wines, on the other hand, do not need to breathe for as long as red wines and are best served slightly chilled. Therefore, the wine glasses tend to have a smaller bowl and a longer stem. The bowl is smaller, because swirling is not essential and the stem is longer, so that the warmth from your hand does not warm the wine up prematurely. Try a Chardonnay, a Sauvignon or a German wine in these glasses.

Champagne glasses are called champagne flutes because the bowl is long and narrow, which allows the bubbles to float through more of the wine than if the bowl were short. This is beneficial for the wine, the taste and its appearance. The stem is also long as with other white wines to diminish heat transfer.

The last main kind of glass is the sherry schooner, which is also used for port. Sherry and port are both heavy reds and so need to breathe, which is one of the reasons why they should be decanted. However, a schooner has hardly any stem, because the warmth from your hand is required to keep the wine at the correct temperature.

Besides the shape of the bowl and the length of the stem, the next most significant factor is the quality of the glass and its design. Some people like hand-blown glass and it can be very beautiful, but it also tends to be light and fragile. I prefer to use lead crystal glasses, which are a lot heavier and can take a deeper pattern.

Christmas Shopping Tips

Christmas shopping can be viewed as an absolute thrill or as a compulsory evil. It is a thrill to be out and about amid the sights and sounds of the season and the cheerful crowds. But for the same reasons, others fear shopping at Christmas time. These days, you do not need to leave your home much or at all to get your Christmas and holiday shopping completed. That is because the Internet puts shopping at your fingertips and rather than contending with conventional retail stores, the Internet has actually expanded the aptitude of traditional stores to sell more products to a larger number of people in a larger quantity of places.

Both large and small retailers can be found at their specialized Web sites on the Internet. Most will also offer items that can be found in the store. However, online retail sites will often have additional products for sale, or access to additional products, that are not yo be found in the store.

Another benefit of shopping on the Internet is that it offers admission to stores situated anywhere in the world. It has therefore become easier to order a unique present from a niche or specialty boutique store in places that you otherwise would not be able to reach. It is also easy to do comparison shopping using ’shop bots’ or simply by comparing prices yourself.

If Christmas shopping is done through the Internet, you have to pay careful attention to the order times and any cut-off dates to get an item delivered in time for Christmas. Based on anticipated volume, most sites will give a date or the number of hours within which orders have to be confirmed for guaranteed delivery of the products before Christmas.

The mall is a popular place for conventional Christmas and holiday shopping. Precincts offer one-stop shopping and have a huge assortment of merchandise, which can reduce the endless searching of dozens of stores for some exclusive item. The stores will also be delightfully garlanded for Christmas, have splendid displays and a Santa Claus to interact with children. These and other activities that are usually at the mall during Christmas and the holidays also make them an attractive setting to take children to enjoy some of the season’s delights.

To maximum benefit from shopping at the mall, you will need to know the discrepancies between the mall department stores. You will need to find out which stores have exclusive brands, which stores are moderately priced and which are more up-market.

There are also the specialty stand-alone stores and spinoff store branches for children and adolescents that try to fill a particular niche. As an example, stores have emerged that carry only styles associated with hip-hop culture or styles that have an ‘urban’ look. So it may be worthwhile beginning your shopping at a specialty store, because they are more targetted, and then continue onto a department store that has a wider selection.

Another interesting place to shop in malls are the stand-alone kiosks that are frequently located at intervals in the open areas of a mall where there is a lot of foot traffic. These kiosks are more likely to carry one-of-a kind items, which can provide ideas for Christmas presents.

Also at precincts will be dedicated shops that offer home/household products, books, music and movies, electronics, sports gear and shoes.

All of the types of mall stores previously mentioned can also be found at Outlet or Factory Precincts or Warehouses, which offer lower prices. These stores often carry clearance items from their related precinct store, merchandise with minor flaws and merchandise that is made for the outlet. Those items of merchandise frequently have minor style variations from what is found in mall stores and may also be made from different materials.

A final place to consider for Christmas shopping is downtown businesses. They are frequently small and intimate, have unique offerings and offer more personalized support. Although city center businesses are also likely to be crowded at Christmas time, there is likely to be less of a crush of people than that found at the precincts.

Gold Rosaries

Have you ever seen a golden rosary? They are not things you see every day, but they are very beautiful and they can be found if you look around. A rosary is a symbol of your faith, a method of doing penance and even a way of remembering who gave you your faith.

Because of the symbolic character of a rosary, it does not matter at all what it is made from. However, if you like beautiful things, a golden rosary could be a luxury item for you, even though there is more risk of it being stolen.

You certainly would not want to have it stolen of course, but a valuable rosary is a beautiful thing to own, like a golden business card case or an luxurious fountain pen. It is not so much that it demonstrates that you can afford one, it is more that it shows that it is an important item to you. Something of significance. If you like writing, you want a good pen, if you want to give a good impression, you can have a good business card case and if you love God, you can have a good-looking rosary.

However, you do not have to take it to church with you, if you are worried about being flash. You could only use it at home, if that made you feel easier. After all, you are not buying a golden rosary to show off to the world’s populace, just to illustrate your loyalty to yourself. The weight of a golden rosary seems to add gravity to the proceedings, but that might be a private thing.

However, you do not necessarily have to buy a gold rosary for yourself. You might buy one for a child or godchild in order to demonstrate how much you want that they will discover or uphold the faith.

You will have to go to a professional trader who knows about gold rosaries. This is because if the beads are too heavy for the chain, the chain might not last long. The constant moving of the beads could either wear the gold chain thin too swiftly or just break it.

That would be a crying shame, because you might lose one or more of your beads too and the beads on a gold rosary would of necessity be quite classy too. Replacing one or more beads might be difficult or even impossible years down the line.

A gold rosary would almost certainly become a family heirloom and be passed down for generations or even hundreds of years. It would be a great inducement for a young person to consider the important things in life.

Your church could give you pointers about where to buy a gold rosary from someone that really knows what the proportions of the beads to the chain should be. They will also offer you different purities of gold, usually 9, 14 or 18 carat gold and the beads could be anything from glass to pearls.

If you do go in for a gold rosary, get the retailer to attest to the materials used in its manufacture and the various weights so that if you have a problem, you have proof to show the insurance company.

Low-Cost Wedding Favours

If you are holding a large wedding, that is one with many guests, the cost of wedding favours can be quite considerable, if you do not set a strict budget. One immediate technique you could use to cut the cost of your wedding favours is to give one to each couple or single, rather than one to everybody who comes. The first judgment to take is how much can you afford in total and then divide that by the number of guests in total and then divide it by the number of couples and singles.

This method will make it easier for you to decide what you are going to do: buy for everybody; buy for couples and singles and keep the rest for something else or give to couples and singles but buy more elaborate gifts. If you still find that there is not a lot of money to go around, you will need to look for lower-priced wedding favours. I will give you a few thoughts below to get you going.

Candles can be very successful, low-cost wedding favours. If you buy in bulk, you can get some really lovely candles at very reasonable prices. You could get perfumed candles, maybe with the same smell as the bouquet the bride carried. You could also consider buying personalized ribbons to tie attractive bows around the candles and the ribbons could have your names and the wedding date on them.

Candy or chocolate is another type of low-cost wedding favour. There are many ways to go down this route. You could have the wrappers of popular candy bars custom-made; you could buy quite expensive chocolate in bulk and wrap it up in a special way yourself or you could buy small boxes of connoisseur chocolate.

Giving packets of flower or vegetable seeds is also an inexpensive way of giving a useful wedding favour. Again, you could give seed packets of the flowers in the bride’s bouquet. The seed packets could be wrapped or boxed with your own special logo, names and wedding date. You could present them in a pot or tray too in order to make it even easier to sow the seeds.

A pen or pen and pencil set is also a fairly economical way of giving wedding favours. These pens can also bear your wedding details such as names and date.

However, I am Welsh and so my favourite wedding favours are love spoons in miniature, say four inches long. Love spoons were given in Wales by a suitor to his beloved for hundreds of years and many love spoon carvers will make mini versions by hand for a small sum of money. These love spoon wedding favours can also be inscribed with the wedding details as they are typically made out of wood.

Another nice touch is to add a stamped, self addressed envelope to your wedding favour present, with a short note asking the recipient to get in touch with you soon, so that you do not let too much water go under the bridge.

Gold Wedding Rings

The most frequently used element for wedding rings and engagement rings is gold. White gold is even more exclusive. Gold wedding rings look good whether the design is just a straightforward, basic band or an engraved band like a Celtic Knot. Gold rings can be given on other occasions too of course. Some people give their children a gold ring for their coming of age birthday.

Until not so long ago, it was conventional for the man to give a gold ring when he asked for his girlfriend’s hand in matrimony. However, nowadays it is more common for the couple to go shopping for the engagement or wedding ring together. This makes good sense, even if it is less romantic, because the wearer can get the design that she likes.

Gold symbolizes purity in many cultures and that is one of the reasons why it is given to brides and brides to be. The symbolism is all but lost though in today’s consumer society in the West. For many people though it still represents the hope that they will stay true to each other, until the day they die. It is a way of showing that the wearer has taken vows and intends to stick to them.

There is a huge variety of gold rings available. However, the variety lies not only in the design but also in the purity of the gold. Naturally, the purer the gold, the more expensive it is. In the UK, most gold rings are either 9 or 18 carat. In the USA, most gold rings are 14 carat, but in Thailand, not many people would buy gold that is less than 18 carat and 22 carat is the norm for women. Pure gold is 24 carat, however pure gold is so malleable that you can mould it with your bare hands.

This might sound fine, but it is not. A 24 carat gold ring goes out of shape every few hours, just by you doing what you do every day and then it can pinch your skin. Opening a door can buckle the ring. This means that you can not set stones in pure gold, because they would soon fall out. Pure gold rings are best not even engraved because the design would soon rub off.

Therefore, the best place to begin, if you want a gold ring, is to think about what style you want. Do you want precious stones set into it? Then you cannot really go above 18 carat. If you cannot afford 18 carat then 9 or 14 carat is for you. If you want something like a Celtic Knot ring, that is one with an engraved pattern, then anything up to 18 carat for you too, depending on your finances. If you want a pain band of gold, then a thick ring of 22 carat gold would be great, but not if you do a lot of manual work.

If you really want something special, why not have a gold ring crafted to your own design? It is not so expensive as you might think and you will end up with something unique, especially if you provide your own stone to be polished too. Such a gold ring would become a family heirloom and could stay in the family for generations.

Do Not Choose Your Wedding Ring In Haste

There is a huge number of wedding rings to be had in the shops these days. In fact, you have the world of wedding rings to pick from. The high street shops in a large town have a very good assortment, but the Internet lays the best jewellers and the best styles out for your inspection.

So, it is very important that you take your time when choosing one. Maybe the enormous choice of wedding rings makes that more difficult not easier. Diamond wedding rings have been the most popular since ordinary working people could afford them, before that a plain band of gold had to suffice, for people who could afford that much.

Nowadays, Western people have become more adventurous and they are choosing other stones like the stunningly beautiful blue sapphire. Some even choosing not to have a stone at all, going back to tradition, so to speak. However, there are plenty of examples of not so plain bands of gold too.

There is the Irish Claddagh ring with its distinctive two hands holding a crowned heart symbolizing love, friendship and loyalty; and there is the Celtic Knot with its intricately interwoven strands twisting and turning without end, standing for eternity and eternal love despite the twists and turns and difficulties of daily life.

So, selecting a wedding ring is not just a question of picking a beautiful wedding ring, you should be picking one that says what you want it to say. You could look up on the Internet what the different metals and various stones indicate traditionally. If you cannot find a ring that says what you want, think about having one made. It is not as expensive as you might think.

Tradition is a good thing when it comes to wedding rings. After all, you want your ring to express your everlasting love and devotion for the person you are giving it to and your marriage could last fifty or sixty years, especially with people living longer these days. With a bit of luck, you will wear this ring for the rest of your life, so choose a style that seems timeless to you.

Picking a wedding ring is not as straightforward as it looks, because you are going to be wearing your ring every day for the rest of your life, so it should be something that you will not get tired of in a couple years. You should look at and try on many rings in order to get one that feels comfortable. You will want a ring that does not look out of date in ten years time. The simplest method of doing that is to go for a traditional style, because those styles have already stood the test of time.

One last piece of advice is to ask the jeweller to attest to the total carat weight of the stones in the ring and the weight of each individual stone and the quality and weight of the metal (although it should be hallmarked) on paper, then if it gets lost or stolen you have something to show the insurance company.

Saving Money In The Sales

Everyone loves to take advantage of the reduced prices during the holiday sales. In fact, the best day to go looking for special offers is the day after the actual holiday is over.

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving and it is the busiest shopping day of the year. You will get huge savings, but you will need to get up early, be prepared to queue and jostle.

Another case in point is jewellery and St Valentine?s Day. Many men buy their wives or girlfriends jewellery during this period as a St Valentine?s Day present. However, in the weeks after St Valentine?s Day, you can save at least 30% on the very same pieces of jewellery that were on sale a week before. This is a clear sign that we are being ripped off on these holiday occasions and that we ought to wait until the actual holiday is over.

OK, it may not be so romantic to wait, but it must be better to be able to get 30% more gold for your money or to give the same present, but be able to go for a meal too. If I were a woman, I know which alternative I would take!

Or, instead of a nice silver or gold ring, you would be able to afford gold instead of silver or white gold instead of yellow. You could get a exquisite Celtic knot or a Claddagh ring instead of a simple band.

Beautiful Easter clothing is also expensive before Easter. However, why not buy the items you want after Easter and either make use of them next year or use them for parties, exceptional occasions or church? You can save a bundle of money in this way, just by using a little forward planning.

In order to help cut down on how much money you spend on Christmas presents, why not try buying them all year long as and when you find something appropriate in the sales? How many times have you seen something in a sale and said to yourself: ‘that would be the perfect gift for so-and-so’? It is better to take advantage of these chances and keep the items aside for when the right occasion comes up.

Then there are those post Christmas sales too. The Boxing Day sales are a great opportunity to pick up items that you can give as presents later in the year. And why not buy something for yourself too while you are at it? You can save a fortune on your favourite perfumes. Buy enough to last you the rest of the year!

You can make your funds go a lot further if you take advantage of the post holiday sales. Rely on serendipity. Buy opportunistically and you will not only save yourself a lot of money, but you will never be stuck for a present at the last minute either.

Celtic Wedding Traditions

Celtic wedding are an ideal way of expressing your being a Celt. It is also a way of integrating traditional values, symbols, themes and customs into major events in your life. However, Celtic wedding are massively popular not only among people with a Celtic tradition, but among other couples who are taken by the ancient Celtic culture.

Celtic wedding have traditional symbolic decorations, often based on the Celtic knot. Welsh, Irish and Scottish families will occasionally marry in ancient buildings like castles or old manors, but that is not the norm. A traditional Celtic wedding is not significantly different from a normal British wedding in a lot of ways.

However, the number of similarities between Celtic wedding traditions and normal British-style weddings goes a lot further than that. If you want a traditional British style wedding, you will be going unwittingly for a Celtic wedding. But you can beef up the Celtic part of the wedding ceremony even further without sinking into silly theatrics.

This is a traditional Celtic poem about when to marry:

Marry when the year is new, Always loving, kind and true.

When February birds do mate, You may wed, nor dread your fate.

If you wed when March winds blow, Joy and sorrow both you’ll know.

Marry in April when you can, Joy for maiden and for man.

Marry in the month of May, You will surely rue the day.

Marry when June roses blow, Over land and sea you’ll go.

They who in July do wed, Must labour always for their bread.

Whoever wed in August be, Many a change are sure to see.

Marry in September’s shine, Your living will be rich and fine.

If in October you do marry, Love will come but riches tarry.

If you wed in bleak November, Only joy will come, remember.

When December’s showers fall fast, Marry and true love will last.

Here are a few other traditions:

Loving Cup: The traditional cup is a two-handled bowl with Celtic designs etched onto it. The idea of the Loving Cup ceremony is for the bride and groom to share their first drink together as husband and wife and to demonstrate the coming together of their two families.

The Bell of Truce: A bell is blessed and then presented to the bride and groom. The couple is required to ring the bell, while thinking tender thoughts of each other. The bell is then kept at home as a token of the wedding day. If an argument arises, the bell can be rung by either the husband or wife to call a truce. The tinkling sound is meant to remind the couple of their wedding vows and to help them recall happy memories from their wedding day.

Handfasting: Early Celts used to ?tie the knot?. It originates from a pre-Christian custom of literally tying a couple’s wrists together in a form of probationary marriage lasting a year and a day, at the end of which a new agreement was made or the couple parted ways.

Bride’s Bouquet: In Celtic wedding traditions brides carried herbs beneath their veils to symbolize fidelity, and spices to ward off evil spirits.

Ring finger: Ancient Celts thought that there was a vein in the third finger of the left hand that ran directly to the heart, so ring placed on that finger demonstrated a strong love and vow to the other.

Wedding cake: A thin loaf was broken over the bride’s head at the end of the service to indicate fertility. The wheat from which it was made symbolized fertility and the guests enthusiastically picked up the pieces for good luck charms.

It was also common for the Celtic groom to toss a handful of coins into the crowd after the wedding, in the belief that this would bring them luck in the years ahead.

Adorning Your Christmas Tree

As the Christmas holiday season begins to approach, a large quantity of people and their families will begin decorating their home for Christmas. While almost anything in the house can be decorated, a largest focus is sited on the Christmas tree. Since there is a good chance that you may want to purchase a tree for yourself, you might be thinking about about decorations. a lot of people put a toy train set running around the tree too these days

Maybe, the most common ornaments used on a tree are fairy lights. Fairy lights are a string of small lights that are usually multicolored or just plain white, although various colour combinations can be bought. Most people who put up a Christmas tree use these lights to decorate their tree. What is lovely about fairy lights is that you have a broad diversity of options when using them. For example, some lights flash to the rhythm of a tune or even play the music too.

Aside from lights, ornaments are another one of the most commonly used Christmas accoutrements. These ornaments come in a broad selection of sizes, shapes, and styles. In general, most ornaments are in the shape of a ball. They are typically colored red, green, silver, or gold, although, many Christmas ball decorations also come designed with messages or Christmas symbols. Ornaments are most commonly hung from tree branches using ornament hooks, yarn, or thread.

Christmas tree toppers are other items that can regularly be found on Christmas trees. While tree toppers, like all other decorations, come in a broad selection of sizes, shapes, and styles, they are most commonly angels, stars or fairies. Other popular toppers include crosses and Santas. In addition to coming in varying sizes, you will find that many Christmas tree toppers are designed to light up and some may even play a Christmas tune.

In addition to tree toppers, lights, and decorations, garland is also used on the majority of Christmas trees. In fact, it is rare to find a decorated Christmas tree that does not have tinsel on it. Tinsel, when used to decorate a Christmas tree, is often entwined with the fairy lights.

Tinsel also comes in a variety of different kinds. Popular tinsel styles include floral tinsel and beaded garland . It is also possible to find tinsel with lights already attached to it. The main purpose of such tinsel is to reduce the amount of time it takes to decorate the Christmas tree.

If you are interested in decorating your Christmas tree with lights, ornaments, tree toppers, or tinsel , you will need to buy these items, unless you are using your decorations from last Christmas or you may just have to replace the broken bits. Because all of the above mentioned decorations are widely used on Christmas trees, you will be able to find these at a huge number of merchants, both on and offline. For affordable decorations, you ought to check your local dollar stores, discount stores and department stores. For the largest assortment of Christmas tree decorations, I recommend that you try a local market near to Christmas and don’t forget the Polar Express model train set.
